LTL (Less than Truckload) offers many types of driving options that include: Highway, Peddle, Ambient, Courier, City, and Shunt.
These  drivers are responsible for freight pick-up and delivery  to and from terminals and customer locations. Terminals are located throughout the Gardewine network in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Ontario.
Driving options within this division include:
Â
Linehaul Company and Owner Operator Drivers are Class 1/AZ  driving positions that involve night runs predominately using tandem, rockies, or turnpike trailer combinations.Â
These drivers move the freight from one Gardewine terminal to another, usually within 800 kilometers/500 miles from their home terminal. Drivers are out one night or back the next morning with some freight handling and power equipment responsibilities.
Peddle Company and Owner Operator Drivers are Class 1/AZ driving positions responsible for regional pick-up and delivery to smaller communities surrounding established terminals in each province. These drivers work mainly days, Monday to Friday.
Peddle drivers are responsible for freight handling, possessing good customer service skills, and willing to work longer hours. This role allows drivers the advantage of home daily tractor trailer work, with great earning potential.
City Company and Owner Operator Drivers handle customer pick-ups and deliveries within the business area, usually within the city or town limits surrounding a terminal. Drivers in this role mainly work weekdays, with some rotation for weekends, when required.
Excellent earning potential and advancement opportunities can be found in this sector as positions become available. Vehicles are mainly tractor trailer requiring a Class 1/AZ license, with some Class 5A/DZ roles.
Dedicated Drivers are Class 1/AZ drivers that are dedicated to regular customers and runs. These can include shunt/yard driver positions, peddle runs, bulk product hauling and unloading, turnpike positions, and owner/operator city and shorthaul positions.
Foodstuffs and temperature controlled products are a big part of this division so drivers need to be mindful and diligent at all times. The advantages for drivers in these positions are that they are home every day, enjoy an excellent earning potential and build respectful relationships with the focused customers they service on a regular basis.
Ambient/Courier/Parcel Driver opportunities offer individuals similar routes as peddle drivers only with smaller courier type vehicles. Freight on these routes are mainly smaller packages and pharmaceutical supplies.
Routes are both rural and city with excellent earning potential with a class 5/G driver’s licence. These positions are well suited as an entry level transportation career point. Drivers can build from this experience to achieve a higher class of driver’s licence, potentially through our training program options.
Shunt Drivers are terminal driving positions responsible for the efficient movement of trailers within each terminal’s yard. These drivers work closely with the dock operations; as well as, the maintenance shop on trailer moves.
Shunt operations exist in the larger terminals and operate three 8-hour shifts in a 24-hour period. This offers Class 1/AZ options to balance their shifts to match home and lifestyle.
Deck
Gardewine DECK operations provides excellent earnings for both Company Drivers and Owner Operators. The DECK division is primarily Super B trailers, driven by customer needs for this trailer configuration.
A driver training program on this type of work is available through Gardewine head office for newer DECK drivers.
With a focus on growth,  the DECK management team has secured many large national customers in a number of provinces. This customer base gives drivers on the team steady year round Canada only work, in locations across the network with great earning potential.  Some regional and city driving positions options exist for those Class 1/AZ DECK drivers seeking closer to home DECK work.

Diverse options and above average earning potential are enjoyed by our BULK drivers. The ability to have year-round steady work close to home is welcoming to drivers joining the division.
The BULK operations have customer demands for drivers to run two shifts in a 24-hour period. Flexible shifts and home daily in most cases are appreciated by the BULK driver team network.
BULK operations offer Class 1/AZ Company Drivers and Owner Operators a multitude of options in many regional locations.
